Jason snapped up out of his seat, knocking the bowl of popcorn to the floor.  His face paled as he rushed to the bathroom.  He prayed that she would be alright.  He fought the urge to vomit as he secured her to the roof of his mouth; he swallowed the remaining liquid.  His tongue could feel her heart dangerously race and thud against her ribcage, a small salty taste dripped on the base on his tongue.

She was crying.  He realized that.  He fought stinging in the back of his own eyes.  He could hear her small whimpers.

He locked the door and turned to the mirror.  He opened his jaws wide, revealing the small girl.  Carefully he moved his tongue, pushing her toward the opening of his mouth.  Each movement tasting her.  His open mouth started to salivate just by having something in his jaws.

He felt sick.  Not only because someone he cared about was in danger because of him, but that she was at the complete and utter mercy of him.  And he didn’t know whether he liked that or not.

He became light headed.  How could he even think that?  But there was no lying to himself.  He enjoyed being this in control.  She had no say in what was to happen next.  And he didn’t have much say throughout his life.  He was never completely in control from his father’s dictatorial grasp, even now that he had moved out.

And having dominance over something—anything—even this, brought him some kind of sick and twisted pleasure.

He felt like a monster.

He softly pinched his pointer and thumb together around her torso, bringing her gently in the palm of his hand.  Her collapsed and shaking figure concealed her face in her hands.  Her shorts, tank top and skin was saturated in his saliva.

He snapped back to realty as a loud pound echoed from the other side of the door.  “Are you alright?”  Chad called, his tone curious.

“Just leave.  All of you.”  Jason’s voice was low and hoarse.  He didn’t feel like joining the party.

“What?”  A shocked voice chocked on the other side.

“Now!”  Jason snapped harshly.  He suddenly felt Claire jolt in his hand.  He looked back to see her hug herself into a tighter ball, her body shaking fiercely.  He covered her with the other as he sat down on the floor; he could hear the people outside leaving.  Good.

He revealed her in his cupped hand.  His fingers slowly rubbing her back.  “Claire?”  His voice was hesitant and softly quiet.  What was he supposed to say in this situation?

Claire dropped her hands from her face and wrapped them around her shoulders, the warm saliva slimy to the touch.  Her large eyes looked up into his.  Just smile.  Don’t make a big deal about this.  He made sure you were safe.  Thoughts were buzzing in her head.  Just smile.

Her lips twitched as the corners desperately tried to curve up.  But it failed.  She collapsed in on herself letting out a wail.  “I was so scared.”  She cried.

He brought her to his chest, it was the best thing he could do for a hug without crushing or suffocating her.  He was at a lost for actions.  How could he comfort something so small?

“I know.”  He responded as he looked off in distant thought.  He was thinking about how he felt during the situation.  How he liked it.  And yet here was this sweet girl who was emotionally and mentally tortured by it and his opinion still hadn’t changed.  He still liked that feeling of ultimate control.

He stood and filed the sink a quarter of the way with lukewarm water.  Just like before he tied a shoelace from the faucet that drifted down to the liquid.  “I will be right back, go on it.”  He said and turned from her to walk to his room.

The whole apartment was pitch black.  The only sound was the early October wind quietly rattling the window panes.  He grabbed Claire’s dresser on his nightstand and walked back into the bathroom right after.  His heart plummeted to the floor.

Claire undressed once Jason had left the room.  She was still shaking from after shock.  She walked over to the sink and looked down into the inviting warm water.  She felt herself ascending upward at a dizzying rate, fleshy walls of skin pulsated around her.  Her body felt like it was being squeezed on all sides; the wind was knocked out of her so she couldn’t scream.

What was Jason doing?  She sat in his palm, her head still spinning.  Her whole face became intense red as she immediately covered herself with her arms and hands.  “Jason you jerk!”  She yelled as she looked up.  Her face twisted from anger to fear was she looked in a pair of unfamiliar dark brown eyes.

“Chad.”  Jason said as he looked at his friend holding Claire curiously.  “Give her to me.”  He extended his hand slowly, trying not to invoke any rapid movements that could harm the girl.

“What IS it?”  Chad slurred as he brought the small girl up to his face.

Claire watched as a large digit tried to pull her arms away from their secured spot.  “Jason!”

Chad stopped what he was doing.  A large smile spreading across his face, “It talks!  And it knows your name!”

Jason felt his blood begin to boil.  “HER name is CLAIRE.”  He hissed through clenched teeth.  “Give her to me.”

Chad put up his free hand as if in defeat.  “Claire?”  He voiced and looked down at her.  “I expect a full explanation Jason.”  He winked at her with a crooked smile and plopped Claire in Jason’s open palm.  “I will be waiting in the living room.”

Jason shut the door and put the small dresser on the marble counter.  His anger was bubbling up as he continued to look at the closed door, wondering why his friend was still here.  “Jason?”  He heard a soft voice chime.

He looked back to see Claire sitting in his palm, still covering herself with her hands and arms.  Her face a dangerous shade of red.  His eyes widened.  He quickly looked away.  “I-I’m s-so sorry.”  His voice trembled as he gently lowered her into the warm water.

He leaned against the counter next to the sink and kept his eyes planted on the tilled floor.  His felt blood rushing to his cheeks.  “Claire?”

Claire looked up at the mountainous back of Jason, his broad shoulders casting a shadow over the marbled surface.  “Yes?”  She called, her voice echoing off the sides of the sink.

“I’m sorry about what happened tonight.  I want to protect you... You mean a lot to me.”  He couldn’t believe what he was saying.  To show this vulnerability was foreign to him, and he didn’t like it.

Claire bit her lip to keep her from smiling.  He said ‘you mean a lot to me.’  She felt butterflies flow up from the tips of her toes to the crown of her head.  She wanted to say that she liked him then and there, but she didn’t feel like it was the time.  Her dark thoughts continued to mix with the happy ones.  Would he return her feelings if she never regained her true form?

She shook her head, “You don’t have to be sorry.  You did protect me.  After all I’m still in one piece!”  She giggled, trying to make light of the situation.

Jason smiled.  She was to good to him than he deserved.  He placed a face towel on the counter and turned to leave.  “I will be back in a moment.”  He felt his stomach tighten and his heart race.  He felt a sense of air around her.  What were these feelings?

Outside in the living room Jason’s eyes narrowed and the light feeling vanished.  “What were you doing here?”  He sneered.

“Better question.  What was THAT?”  Chad’s tone was harsh as he jabbed his pointer finger to the hallway where the bathroom resided.

Jason’s lip curled.  He knew Chad wouldn’t leave without an explanation.  He started from the moment he saw Claire in the forest up to now.  “There.  Are you happy?”

Chad stood wide eyed the whole time.  “I would say your full of it unless I hadn’t seen her for myself.... Do you like her?”

Jason’s mouth dropped.  “Out of all questions—”

“Just answer it!”

Jason thought for a moment.  Did he?  She made him feel happy.  But was that only because he was in control over something for the first time in his life?  She was always so kind though, even when he was in the wrong.  His head started to throb.  “I don’t know.  How could anything romantic happen between us anyways with her being so small?”  He thought of when he tried to comfort her, he couldn’t even so much as hug her!

Chad looked at his friend concerned.  He patted him on the back.  “Never mind.  I would like to properly meet her next time.. How about bringing her to the office tomorrow?  When you’re too busy I can get to know the lass.”  He smiled.

Jason bit his lip, “I don’t know..”

“Come on!  Must be a relief to get this secret off your chest!  But don’t worry my lips are sealed.”  Chad opened the door and stepped out into the hallway.  “I can see it in your eyes that you care about this girl.. Just think about it.”  With that Jason was left alone in his own swirling thoughts.

When he walked into the bathroom Claire was curled up in her pj’s on top of the cloth fast asleep.  He gently picked her up and brought her to his room, laying her down on his chest.

He caressed her back.  How did he feel about her?  She stirred in her sleep, his name on her lips.  His heart skipped.  More than anything he wanted to protect her.
